CakeFest Donations, iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2

Firstly, thanks to those that have already put forward generous donations towards my airfares to the CakePHP CakeFest 2009 in Berlin. Thus far I have raised $80, and thats just over 24 hours worth! I recently posted an updated on the ChipIn Page indicating that if the funds are not enough to cover the airfares, any funds donated will donated to CakePHP on the first day of CakeFest unless individuals request their donation be refunded.

As well as that small update, I have been tinkering with the new iPhone 3.0 beta 2 release that came out in the last couple of days. Its fast. I've found that even after loading basic apps and getting some use out of an iPhone, the interface begins to lag, and as yet I have not see this with the new beta firmware.

CakeFest 2009 is happening in Berlin this year, and I am really hoping to be able to go. The cost of flying anywhere from Australia is pretty hefty, and I am hoping some community members out there have benefited from my help and assistance enough to offer small donations to help fly me to Berlin for the CakeFest.

Help get me to CakeFest 2009 in Berlin by donating anything you can. I understand the global economic situation, and that its difficult to spare cash at all right now.. so donations of any size at all are accepted.

This is the first time that I have done this, so here we go...

It's one of those questions that I see more and more these days in the CakePHP IRC Channel: "Why doesn't schema support enum?". The reason is that the portability of the enum storage type is not complete. In the interest of keeping portability at a maximum, enum is not supported for schemas.

So what now? Well, fortunately there is not only a solution to the problem, there is a method of achieving an enum style storage type using simple tables, and getting a more maintainable set of data in the process. I'll explain how:

Calling all iPhone users for App ideas

For those of you that know me well enough, you already know that I have bought into the Apple Developer program and have been building some basic little apps to test out Objective C, the iPhone SDK and the device in general. Code to date can be found over at The Chaw.

The iPhone is pretty popular out there. Now, I don't want this to become a spam-fest fighting for your Smart-Phone of choice, but the fact is that Apple has a grip on the market, and the device is selling pretty well. What I am looking for is some creative ideas for apps that you would use, to try and engage myself in more active iphone development, as well as deliver something useful...
