Blog: New website launched on time!

Graham Weldon

01 February, 2009

It has been a very very busy week. With work, personal life, and getting this site ready to launch. I don't recall ever being as tired as I am now. However, we have a result, and that is the site in its fancy new design with the core functionality included.

It feels like a bit of an anti-climax, as there are a few articles / posts that I wanted to make before launch that describe the construction and development of this site from the design phase through implementation and deployment. I'll get to these soon. For now, its great to have a new fresh presence online after over 6 years of the same old site!

Whats next? There are a number of things I want to achieve now that the new site has been launched:

  • Implement Syntax Highlighted code blocks for blog posting
  • Fix the image upload process for the back end. Its not letting me upload more than 2Mb, even with php tweaked up to 20Mb.
  • Populate the photo section a bit more
  • Allow inline images in content. The site feels a little text/content heavy, when looking at blog posts etc.
  • Sort out some mechanism to cleverly redirect 404's resulting from the old sites links, to the correct content on the new site. With particular importance on RSS feeds.

Well, thats it for now. Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported me getting this done. As a web developer, working on my own website tends to be a low priority. And a special thanks to Johnny, who pushed me a bit to get this finished up, thanks mate! Happy New Website Day!
