Blog: The next step in my career

Today is my last day working for the Cake Development Corporation. In my three years with CakeDC, I have had the opportunity to be exposed to awesome people, projects, and have had the opportunity to learn new and exciting approaches to CakePHP development and in general, web development and production.

For some time now, I have been engaged in and interested in game development, specifically undertaking personal projects with the C# and Javascript languages, and working to build some personal projects to satisfy my curiosity in this area. I have decided to take a position with a new company. While my new job won’t specifically be around Game Development, its using C# as its primary language, and will offer me an opportunity to learn new skills with the language while I bring my personal web application and mobile development experience to their team.

This change in my occupation will not conclude my participation with the CakePHP project. While my involvement over the last year specifically has reduced, I contribute to the team in many ways. Most notably through supporting services and server management, as well as the orgnaisation of our annual conference, CakeFest (Which will be posting an announcement soon!). I anticipate that moving to an office based job local to where I am living will provide me with the work/life separation I need to be able to step up my engagement with CakePHP and continue to assist in the awesome advancements the core team is making on current and future versions.

Working for CakeDC has been both a challenging and rewarding adventure, and I relish every moment of the journey. I wish the team all the best in the future.
